Snapper

Snapper

Angler: Jim Sofian

Fish: 3.5-4kg Snapper

Hook: Mustad Big Red Flasher Rig

Location: Port Phillip Bay, Victoria, Australia

Angler Jim Sofian caught this snapper in Port Phillip Bay, Victoria in November, 2007, on a Mustad Big Red Flasher rig. Port Phillip Bay is one of Australia ‘s main southern snapper fishing grounds and this fish (estimated at 3.5 to 4kg) is a good example of what is there to be caught.

Jim is a great fan of Mustad’s range of assembled fishing rigs and like an increasing number of Australian anglers, uses them extensively for snapper fishing.

The Big Red Flasher Rig is a 3-hook assembled rig equipped with Mustad ‘Big Red’ Ultra Point hooks (ref 92554NPNR). The hooks are equipped with special pink flashing attractor material to enhance the appeal of the bait (sometimes they catch fish without bait).

Jim added garfish and pilchard cubes and whiting heads to his Big Red Flasher rig and says it only took 20 seconds for the snapper to hook up.
