Sydnie loves to fish, plain and simple.  She will spend all day in the boat with her dad and on holiday the family can often be found doing just that.  Over the past Labor Day holiday weekend Sydnie was fishing with her mom, her younger sister Katarina and her dad out of Salmon Beach , not too far from Ucluelet , BC .  While the bite was slow that day, Sydnie is lucky to have a dad who is deep into the fishing tackle business who can always get a few fish to bite.  Her dad, Deryk, owns Active Tackle and Guiding and specializes in selling fishing gear to all the high profile fishing resorts that pepper the BC coastline.  Deryk relies on quality Mustad products to sell to his customers as well as to fish with when on the water with his family.  From Ultra Point hooks to the Mustad Classics to Swivels, Ultra Line and the Activate feeding stimulant, Mustad offers what he needs to outfit the lodges or get Sydnie hooked up to yet another nice salmon.

On this day the Krefting family was trolling Anchovies behind flashers on the downriggers along the ledges and kelp patches.

    • The front hook is the new Ultra Point36329BLN in size 2.  The 36329BLN is a scary sharp 3X Strong premium treble which is snelled to the Pro Plus line.

    • He then snells a 3/0 92568 Ultra Point Octopus/Beak hook so that the hook eyes are around 1.5 inches apart.  If you like red you can substitute the 92567R for the black nickel 92568BLN.

    • One leg of the treble is buried into the anchovy and the stinger hook swings freely along the tail of the bait.

    • The leader is then pulled through the teaser head so that the Anchovy has a bit of curl to it.  This will give the bait its deadly action when trolled behind a flasher.

This rig works extremely well for Springs (local name for Chinook Salmon) as well as Coho (Silvers).  Swing too close to the structure and a Ling Cod or Halibut might also fall victim to the rig.

Sydnie opted to take this Coho home for dinner.  Way to go Sydnie, that’s a very nice fish!  We love the glasses by the way.  How lucky you are to live in such a fishy place :)
