MUSTAD NEWS - SLOW DEATH HOOKS

A PERSPECTIVE ON PERFECTION.
By Gary Parsons
National Freshwater Fishing Hall of Fame Legendary Angler

In the mid-90s a close group of walleye pros were generating tremendous results with a new technique that added incredible action to live-bait presentations by bending hooks in a certain fashion. I knew it was something special, but because I couldn’t master the precise hook bend, I was getting really inconsistent results. Working with the mustad product development team, Keith and I spent countless hours testing hook bends until we perfected a hook design that anybody could rig effectively.

RIGGED WITH NIGHT CRAWLER SHOWING UNDERWATER ACTION

APPLICATIONS
This is a versatile, year-round power finesse presentation. It can be fished fast or slow, has the attractiveness of live bait and adds an irresistible action. The unique hook design creates an enticing corkscrew presentation. This is a slow bottom-bouncing presentation technique that lets you present the bait in cracks, crevices and little corners that faster blade presentations skip over.

TO RIG:
Attach a bottom-bouncer weight to your main line. Add a 4-6 foot, 10 lb monofilament leader and attach hook. Thread half a night crawler up the hook shank over the hook eye. There should be 1/4" to 1/2" of night crawler hanging off the hook.

TO FISH:
Use your trolling motor and keep speeds from 1 mph to almost nothing. The key is to keep just enough speed so the crawler spins. Can also be used effectively when drifting..
